If you're looking for a programming book, check out Wrox Beginning Linux Programming. It covers topics from scripting, working with files, c programming(threads, message queues, pipes, semaphores, network, drivers, etc), perl, gtk, etc. It really helped me start programming and all the source code is downloadable. For $40 it's a great deal, except when compared to online tutorials.
