Kernel 2.6

I've noticed that a lot of people are just dying to get their hands on Kernel 2.6, but why?

Is there something I've missed that I should really be raving about?

they want the "speed" of pre-empt / low latency most likely; if they aren't using a 2.4 kernel with those patches already applied.

ALSA support in the kernel will be nice too, but I'm going to wait for a final release of 2.6 before using it.

one question I have about 2.6 kernels, what do people use to view their sensors with, when i2c-proc is missing?
