I need some help. I recently upgraded Netscape Navigator (the standalone browser) to 4.76 on my debian 2.2 box and now the root account is unable to launch the program. I get the following message at the command line after typing 'navigator &' as root:
/usr/bin/X11/navigator: Cannot be run as root (for security reasons)
Has anyone got any clue as to how to fix this? I obviously did an apt-get as root when I did the install. Thanks in advance.

There is nothing to fix. Debian doesn't allow to launch Netscape as root as it would be a real security issue. Just su to a normal user and launch Ns then. Or better, don't use root account !

Netsacpe as Root is a big NO NO !! in debian...
you just have to log off and use it as an ordinary member... on the Computer, --> its a safer bet.
for me ?? i just load up >> Links << a text based browser to look up some data or Refer to some ON-Line Documentation...
user@debian# apt-get install links
if you want a full graphical browser, so that you can see links & pictures. use mozilla or -->> KDE filebrowser.
type the link into the box. www.linuxnewbie.org (http://www.linuxnewbie.org) & you're there !!!! [ p.s: please add the proxy settings if you are on dialup ]
:D DEBIAN
theres nothing on earth thats as simple as APT :p
