I'm quite new to Linux in general, and totally new to this mystical thing people call IPChains/Firewalls. Though I've used firewalls on Winders (i.e., ZoneAlarm), I've never set up one on Linux before, and was wondering how I'd go about this? All I've seen is a lot of hard-to-understand code, and impossible-to-understand documentation. If anyone could point me in the right direction, it would be appreciated! :D

What distro are you running? In Mandrake I just let whatever came with it set itself up after it asked some questions. I think it was Tiny Firewall. I'm not too concerned about my security, obviously, since all I did was answer the questions.
Well check the book Securing and Optimizing Linux Red Hat Edition (http://www.linuxdoc.org/guides.html#securing_linux). It has a nice guide to setup ipchains firewall even if you are not using RH. Also if you want to use ipchains remember to read the HOW-TO (http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/IPCHAINS-HOWTO.html) on the matter.
Other alternative is to use iptables from which i know vey little.
