If you're running Mandrake you may very well have auto-mount enabled. Pop in a CD and inside a terminal window type:

cd /mnt

then type

ls -Laf

Do you see a directory called CDROM? If so then it's already mounted. Just cd to CDROM and then type

ls

again to see what files are there. If you need to go back up a directory then you type

cd ..

Be sure to leave that space between the "cd" and the "..".

Hope it helps.

Hmmm, don't you have to upgrade Mandrake through the normal installation? Booting from CD and choosing upgrade when prompted to do so?
