I recently purchased a new system. A P-III 733, 64 megs, with an ATI Expert 98 with 8 megs OEM version. I am running RH 6.1 on this box. Presently I am using a Compaq monitor model 1725 at 800 X 600 - great res. My plans are to purchase a new monitor, a Samsung SynMaster 750s and put that on my Linux box, and the Compaq on my windoze box. I spoke to the tech who built this new computer, and he said that the Samsung will work well except perhaps I may experience some problems at higher resolutions. Having looked everywhere for monitor compatibility and not finding anything, I am thinking it may not be monitor compatibility, but vid card compatibility are higher resolutions that he is talking about. I am not dead set at buying the Samsung, it's just that the price is right. I have used NEC's as well. Maybe someone more knowledgeable than I can point me in the right direction as to what the tech meant by his comment on higher resolutions. Would also appreciate buyers advice as to other monitor alternatives. The Samsung is .24 dot pitch.

I appreciate any help.

he probably was referring to almost any average monitor, meaning that refresh rates wont be as high at higher rez. I have a syncmaster 950p and it works perfectly fine in both windows and linux at 1600 and 1280 resolutions, as long as u have a decent vid card and want to run an average rez (1024x768 is average imo)you will be fine

Thanks for the help! I won't be running anything above 1024 X 768. I have always been a fan of the Samsung monitors - my first is still running - 15 years later!

Thanks again,
