I have installed Caldera 3.1 Workstation twice now and both times have the same problem.

The system stops during boot with the message:

Loading module usbcore
Loading module usbcore
Loading module usbcore

the message flashes on the screen for just a second but keeps repeating over and over, If I do nothing eventually it times out with the following message:

Init: ID "gu" respawning to fast: disabled for 5 minutes

The first time I installed Caldera I had my only USB device (a Visioneer Scanner) connected and the problem surfaced on the first boot after installation.

The second time I installed Caldera I had the scanner power unplugged (hoping to keep it from causing the USB problem, if it was), I was able to boot one time to the KDE desktop and after I installed the OS but on the second boot the problem happened again.

Any ideas whats happening?

TIA for any/all advice

I've installed Workstation 3.1 on many a pc with usb and never had a problem. It's hard to tell what the problem could be.

You could try disabling usb in the bios and when you have everything up and running, then try enabling again.

If you still have problems, try emailing Caldera's support as they are usually quite good at responding.

Check out the Caldera support knowledge base. It seems that in 3.1, the hotplugd daemon can cause usb problems.
Select OpenLinux, then 3.1, then search for usb. There are two pages of articles.
They may even have a patch to fix it.
