After some problems with the beta 2 install, beta 3 went rather well. The one thing that blew my mind was that it configured both of my displays for Xinerama/dual-head fun out-of-the-box. It even gave me the option to configure each card individually, but I was so amazed to see the Xinerama option, I didn't try anything else. :)

(Previously, I had to tweak XFree86 config files by hand to get dual-head working with my two video cards.)

I did managed to hang lpadmin when I configured my printer for the second time; haven't messed up on the first attempt on-purpose. The other "supposed" hang occured when I went to test the dual-head config. I noticed that the second display came to life, but no graphical screen ever showed. A quick CTRL-ALT-Backspace killed the install X display and the Xinerama dual-head screen came right up. They'll prolly knock out those bugs before the final code drops. No biggie.

Aside from seeing that GNOME 1.4 announcement on the LNO front page, I don't know what else can be added to Drake 8. I really don't think that I'll install the final release unless I run into some serious problems. I should be able to grab the minor updates with MandrakeUpdate as needed.

That Xinerama thing is pretty impressive. By giving you the option to configure each card individually, do you mean, like, two completely separate X sessions? That's pretty cool too.

I rarely use Gnome. I already have KDE 2.1 and kernel 2.4.3 running in Mandy 7.2. Are there any other goodies in Mandy 8 Beta 3 that make it worth installing?

BTW, I tried Nautilus and just hate it.

RE: Mandrake 8.0B3

Is anyone else having problems when logged in as "root", with KDE just blipping out on you? It keeps doing it to me, usually when I'm in the middle of something. It'll go back to the KDM login screen.

Also, has anyone tried extracting tar files in this one yet? Everytime I try to tar -x *.tar (*=filename), it just hangs, and won't do anything. I've also tried it in the Konquer file manager. (right click - open with archiver) Maybe I'm just a dink and doing something wrong again.
