Hi,
I am fairly new to linux and i just registered her. I have a slight problem. I am trying to configure and install qmail. I got to the part where i test out the configuration settings that i have and for some reason the qmail ./config program gets confused if your server cannot be found because your server can't be resoved (or somthing) by DNS. So i phoned down to my ISP and talk to him for about a half hour about my problem. He said that i couldn't set it up because when i try to connect to my server it doesn't "point" at my ip. So he gave me a solution. Set up a DNS server for my local host and another one for my isp's. Then get qmail ./config to look at the local host and have the local host point at my isp.

So i have a few questions pertaining to this post:

1) Does my techie know what he is talking about or is he just trying to sluff me off?

2) if he is telling me the right thing to do, how can i do it and/or is there a better way???

Thanks a solution to this would be much apperciated...

I can't answer your question, but, are you sure you really need a mail server? And why are you using qmail? Sure it's probably the best mail server, but it's really confusing. I use exim just because it's simple and small. Sendmail is also kind of popular...

You should probably tell us if you have a static or dynamic IP, and if you plan on actually having mail delivered to your computer, or if you just want to use it as an outgoing mail server.

For the love of God, please tell us you're not trying to do this so you can spam people.
