Mandrake 8.1 Development Packages

I have used mandrake 8.1 recently, and like all other versions of Mandrake, I have a hard time compiling programs (errors, missing libs, etc...)

I read online somewhere that this is because even when you select the "Development Package" in the Mandrake installation, it still does not install everything that is needed.

Any suggestions?
