Cant made username with Dot in RH 9

Dear all-


i am not able to made username with dot e.g max.k

i get the error

"useradd: invalid user name 'max.k'"

i able to add sucessfull in RH 7.x i there is something differnet in RH9

When I try it on mine, it gives the same message. I can use "-". Maybe it thinks "." means a hidden file?

Perhaps you could try useradd "max.k", don't know if that'll work or not.
