Hi,

I have VNC server running on my RH9 box and when I connect from my XP using vncviewer I get a prompt similar to a telnet window on the vncviewer screen. I was expecting the gui environment similar to what happens when I VNC between windows boxes - I can see the exact same desktop and move things around as if I'm using that box.

The reason I need to do this is I need to run the J2EE deploytool remotely which has a gui interface.

I've googled and searched all postings here but could not find a related post.

Any help is appreciated.

you lost me on which computer is running vncserver and which is running vncviewer. Then the problem might be easier to answer.

just figured it out.

Linux <------------ Windows
VNCServer VNCViewer

Never heard of that problem. I do this all the time from work to home. Question, what are the messages you get when starting VNCServer?
There is a log file in ~/.vnc/ that might help.

i just figured it out :-)

Just commented out the twm & (or something like that) and added gnome-session in /root/.vnc/xstartup file.

Thanks for the reply.
