Hey all,

I just downloaded samba 3.0.0.tar.gz uncompressed it to a temp dir under root.

Im logged in as root and in the current dir 'samba' typing ./configure

After that it tells me 'that there is no such file or directory'.

Tryed changing dir to 'source' Then this message comes up 'no acceptable C compiler found in $path.

Also tryed to find some solutions in UNIX_install doc. with no luck :(

Hope you guys can help me out with this?

Sincerly /Yoga

What distro and version are you running?

Basically the error you're getting is saying that you either haven't installed a C/C++ compiler (like gcc), or you don't have it configured in your $path. I don't know the specific file to edit, but someone probably does.

why not just install the binary located here:

http://us3.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/RedHat/RPMS/i386/9.0/

There's no samba-common binary though... synaptic complained about broken packages when I tried it... do you need Samba Common? I'm not sure...

That is assuming that you run RH 9. Slackware now has a samba 3.0 .tgz version on their site.
