what IP is www.google.com resolving to? what happens when you goto just google.com without the subdomain?

It wasn't the 404 error page or anything, was it?
Do you have a proxy server or a firewall in place that might block access or do silent redirection?
I've been googling all day (I'm bored) and not had a problem.
Try Google for Linux (http://www.google.com/linux) instead.

If you go to this link:
www.sldfgsdlfjrvbekfffffffsssjfsd.com
Does it bring up the same page?
edit:
nevermind you just posted a screenshot..
from a command prompt type
nslookup www.google.com
and post the results..

the first link brings up veriSign site
nslookup (hmm, nice new stuff)
Note: nslookup is deprecated and may be removed from future releases.
Consider using the `dig' or `host' programs instead. Run nslookup with
the `-sil[ent]' option to prevent this message from appearing.

Hey, I've seen that 'search page' before...isn't that one of verisign's nasty DNS hijacking pages?
I've seen this behavior before also, from the ISPs DNS getting messed up...usually gets fixed by the end of the day, I'll guess around 4-5pm cst :)
BTW...your nslookup is correct, but it looks like it's reading it from your local server/firewall. Turn DNS off on that and see what happens

GOT IT!!!
You're being redirected to the following site (well, it's extremely similar, but not identical - look closely).
www.tissad.org (http://www.tissad.org)

EDIT: Here is the google search page (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=lang_en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=phentermine+refinance+%22internet+gambling%22&btnG=Google+Search) (might not work for you).

Well seeing how DNS is OK, and it only happens with netscape I would start looking there..
I'm not very familiar with netscape but I would see if you can clear any temp files/cooking and things like that.

Sounds like Nutscrape is redirecting your searches. Just uninstall Nutscrape and install Mozilla instead. It's the same browser, but without all the AOL bloatware.

Well either that search page is locally embedded in the browser, or the IP addresses are hard-coded (also in the browser). In either case it sounds like an under-handed trick by Netscape.
Just use Mozilla and burn all images of Netscape.
