I just upgraded to Mandrake 9.1, and now I am not able to burn cds. I normally use K3B, but whenever i try to burn somthing, it just sits there and does nothing. The status window comes up and all that happens is it tells me how long it has been "working". Ive let it sit there over night, and still nothing happened. I dont belive I changed anything on my system other than upgrading to 9.1. If anyone has any ideas, that would be great. Thanks.

Yes, do a search here (http://www.google.com/linux), and here (http://www.justlinux.com/forum/search.php?s=).
If you still can't get it working, come back with a more detailed scenario, what steps you used, where it borked, and messages you think could be important. Most of the info is out there, and it's usually just loading a kernel module. There are user friendly FAQs out there...you just have to find them. :)

Have a look through your system logfiles at the timestamp you are attempting to burn a cd to see if you can spot any error messages.
The logfiles are in /var/log with the main one being /var/log/messages.

Ive looked through my log files, nothing. I check the debugging output of K3B and all that shows is:
System
-----------------------
K3b Version: 0.9
KDE Version: 3.1.3
QT Version: 3.1.2
and nothing else. Its like it not even starting. I know it detects my cd-writer, because it shows it and running a cdrecord -scanbus gives me:
Cdrecord 2.0 (i586-mandrake-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2002 Jörg Schilling
Linux sg driver version: 3.1.24
Using libscg version 'schily-0.7'
scsibus0:
0,0,0 0) 'PLEXTOR ' 'CD-R PX-W1610A' '1.04' Removable CD-ROM
0,1,0 1) *
0,2,0 2) *
0,3,0 3) *
0,4,0 4) *
0,5,0 5) *
0,6,0 6) *
0,7,0 7) *
So i dont know... Ive since tried other burning programs also with no luck.

I just started playing around with K3b myself, so I won't be much help. But I have read that K3b doesn't play well with older versions of cdrecord. You may want to see if a upgrade is available. Although, I would think with this version of Drake, you would have a plenty recent version. You never know though.

What speed setting are you using? Does the media match the the speed setting?

The media can suport up to 24x burning, my burner is only a 16 speed. The problem is it appears that cdrecord doesnt even start to work. I dont get any errors, i just get NOTHING.

The 9.1 upgrade must have broke something either in the kernel modules or the actual cd devices.
Are all the required modules loaded for scsi emulation?
lsmod (list loaded modules to check)
Have you tried running K3B at the commandline (as root) to see if it generates any error messages?
Does cdrecord work at the commandline for burning cd's?
