I have built a machine and installed Red Hat 9, the machine works fine.

I would like to use this machine on the internet, but not sure which modem I should use, I have been told that some internal modems do not work with Linux.

I would like to know what make of external modem I should use?.

I need to be certain that the modem will work with Red Hat as where I live is quite remote, most computer related items come to me by boat and take an age to get here, and it's not so easy to exchange if they don't work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

us robotics makes some nice modems. You can also pic up a cheap internal modem off ebay that'll work. Just make 100% sure that it's a hardware modem and not a winmodem and it'll work.

pretty much what fryguy8 said, if you got the money go for the nice USR external modem, I used one for some time when I had dialup, however if you're hurting for funds then find an internal hardware modem.
