Hi,

I'm looking at getting some shiny new Dell kit for my somewhat shabby server room.

I want to stay standardised on Debian stable but I'm not sure if I'll be able to get the on board SCSI controller working.

It's listed as an LSI 1030.

Does anyone have any idea what kernel level driver I should use, or where I can get a suitable driver?

I really don't want to use Dells Redhat distro since I want to stay on Debian.

Any help greatly appreciated! :)

From http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=pw_scsi&message.id=548 :

I am now able to get the RedHat 7.2 release smp kernel (2.4.7-10smp) to boot from the LSI. I added the following to the kernel line in /boot/grub/grub.conf:

append noapic

This can be added during install.

I am now trying to do the 2.4.9-31 kernel. Any luck with this kernel, without having to do a rebuild?

Regards,

Patti

However, I think you may be looking for the mptbase and mptscsih modules, (from a bit of googling about. )

Thanks. Saw that after a bit of googling.

I guess I just need to make sure that I can get Debian working on this box before ordering it!
