Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Mandrake 9.1 not seeing all my memory

I have a Dell Precision workstation with 2 gigs or RAM and dual Xeon processors. For some reason, Mandrake 9.1 is only seeing 900 megs of the RAM. I tried upgrading the kernel and passing the kernel parameters telling it how much memory I had "mem=exactmap mem=2048m@0" with no success.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,

what kernel and is the High Mem option compiled into the kernel?

The kernel is 2.4.21. It appears that perhaps Mandrake's 9.1 kernel, even the SMP one, was not compiled with the HIGHMEM option. I am going to recompile with HIGHMEM and post my results here.

Make sure you read the HIGHMEM and related topics in /usr/src/linux/Documentation/Configure.help so you understand exactly which options need to be enabled.

Here's some more food for thought..................................

Re-compiling the kernel with HIGHMEM enabled did fix my memory issue. Of course now I am having other issues with it not detecting my NIC card... I am going to try using the Mandrake config file in the /boot directory and modifying that and seeing if my NIC will be detected properly.
