I have my modem configured, and when I do a debug (Red Hat), it dials and connects. I can't get it to dial through the RH PPP dialer though. Can someone help me with getting the RH PPP dialer to work, or alternatively, giving me another way of making the connection?

Thank You

Ok, I have my connection going with wvdial, but it appears the problem now is with Netscape. I try to access any given web site, and I get a "server xxxx" not found message.

I can ping my DNS, so I am getting communications. Any ideas on what I need to do? It would be great if I could stop rebooting into Windows everytime I needed to get on the web.

Thanks for any help

Can you ping an outside address? IE www.netscape.com (http://www.netscape.com) or www.linuxnewbie.org? (http://www.linuxnewbie.org?)
If you can, then not sure other then to verify your settings in netscape. If not, then you still have a problem with your dns settings.

Are you starting netscape before you get online? I had a problem where if I did that, netscape would do the same, but if I closed and restarted it, it would work fine.

Also, ping may not be a good way to check, as many sites have modified ping responses to deal with DoS attacks. Alternatively, try a simple browser like lynx (included with a lot of distros). If you can pull up a page with that, then netscape is the problem. Personally, I use Mozilla (the jan 30th nightly build if you care).

When I ping outside entities, they resolve (i.e. www.micorsoft.com (http://www.micorsoft.com) and www.linuxnewbie.org (http://www.linuxnewbie.org) resolve to IP addresses), so I assume that 1) I am hitting the server, 2) I am able to correctly access the DNS servers, and 3) something is screwing up from there.

If anybody has any ideas at what point my problem is, and how I can test/fix it, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

When you set up the RHppp dialer, there is a debug button. Did you click it?

Yes, it called out just fine. Also, wvdial made the connection. I am having the same problem at home with my dialup, and at work with my network connection : I can connect to the DNS servers, but I can't connect to anything past them.
