I have a wheel mouse, but I can't get the wheel to work under Linux. Currently its just a middle-click with no scroll capabilities :(. I need the scrolling ability for browsing, and Q3A...

Its a Logitech PS/2 mouse...
I have no idea what files to edit in order to make it work like it should. I'm on Slackware 8, if that helps.

Try installing imwheel. Search for it in http://www.freshmeat.net

I have a logitech mouseman optical and I never got the wheel to work when I set it up as such. Instead, I got it to work by setting it up as a Microsoft Intellimouse.

You probably already know, but make sure your Z axis is set up correctly too.
Good Luck

What type of Logitech is it exactly? I have a MouseMan Plus (the one with the wheel/button, and a thumb button), and just got it working with no problem. In your XF86Config, edit these lines in the mouse section:

Protocol "MouseManPlusPS/2"
Buttons "5"
ZAxisMapping "4 5"

This worked for me. The only thing not working so far is the thumb button...
