Back when my ISP was AT&T, they blocked port 80, about the time of that idiot worm, that caused so much trouble. Now, last couple of days, people cannot send mail to my domain. I am listening on port 25, and can connect locally, but others cannot. No bounce notice, no nothing. Just no delivery. This has been working perfectly for a long time until just now. Anybody know what's up with that, please?

Sounds like it may be a DNS issue... I don't think an ISP would block a mail port. There are too many people / companies that have their own mail servers.

I'm pretty sure comcast has blocked that port. Comcast customers(home dsl) aren't allowed to run any servers on their connection and that is why I left attbi/comcast. I'm with speakeasy now and they're simply the best. Leave comcast before they raise your premium for no apparent reason!

Yup, I have done some further investigation. Inbound packets headed for port 25 are silently dropped on the floor. I suppose leaving them is the likely option. Does all DSL use pppoe? I much prefer DHCP, also, can we still get an ethernet modem, or is USB the only game?

I use Verizon ADSL and I have an ethernet modem and DHCP. :)

Thank you, sir. Are you aware of this item in Verizon's Terms of Service?
E. You may not use the DSL Service to host any type of server personal or commercial in nature.
This is exactly what has happened to me with Comcast. Their TOS prohibits servers, although they did tolerate it for years, and still do except for dropping ports 80 and 25.

Yes I know that little piece of their TOS that says you cannot run a server but I never mentioned having the bronze package. :D
Their silver package connects via pppoe and supports a server connection. The nice thing about Verizon is that they have ethernet modems so you don't have to worry about drivers or anything. You might want to check that out. Good luck!

hehe It's only a matter of time before they get all their routers to start dropping those packets. It takes time and isn't instantaneous and you're probably one of the lucky few who are still able to host a server. It's just like the whole black box for cable deal, you think you're safe until they do their suprise audits and then cut you off. Speakeasy is the answer.
