I recently installed madrake 9.1 on my system and Im having a problem with my ATI radeon card. HardDrake is showing my radeon 9000 card as a PCI card instead of AGP. GLXGEARS gets 2200.0 FPS but other OpenGL apps are VERY slow. I tried to run NeverWinter Nights and I was getting < 10 FPS. How to I make my system see the card as AGP?

Uh.. I think you mean it gets 22.00 fps? 22000 fps is pretty supercomputerish :) But seriously, you might want to double check that. :) As for the APG deal, it is not uncommon for AGP cards to be detected as "PCI". The AGP bus is hosted on the PCI channel, with a special "channel" that allows it to bypass the PCI bus and pipe video data strait to and from the CPU.
Um... I DO know that there are severe issues with many cards and 24 or 32 bit color depth. You will often not get hardware exceleration at anything over 16 bit for some dumb reason, so try backing it down to 16 bit. It almost always does the trick for me :)

Are you using the video drivers included with Mandrake or have you installed the ATI specific drivers from http://mirror.ati.com/support/driver.html ?

Hardware acceleration IS running, or else I would not be getting 2200.00 fps in glxgeaers. Thats 2,200.00 not 22,000 as you had previous though. Look closer, there is a '.' there ;)
The machine was running fine before I hosed it while playing with.... well nevermind, it was dumb, ill leave it at that. ;)
Regardless, it was running fine with the mandrake included driver, and XFree86 4.3 with 3d acceleratoin was running ok . When I reinstalled the system I got very very poor performance with NWN, but glxgears was giving me 1,780.400 fps. Im thinking this is an application/compatability problem that I didnt have on my previous install.
Currently I am running the latest fglrx drives from the ATI website, instead of the mandrake included driver. Im getting prett frustrated with this thing, I have been playing with settings left and right and getting varied results from "eh ok, i guess" to "AHHH Piece of Crap".
Any help would be appreciated.
