Hello there,

Need to remove battery to return BIOS to its defaults. Battery held in by strong, springy, flat, horizontal beam. Can I just slip a piece of paper under this metal beam to disconnect battery?

If not how is battery removed without using force.

Forgive if idiotic.

i don't see why it would hurt using a piece of paper to break continuity in the battery circuit in order to reset the BIOS to default, go for it - sounds like a good idea to me...

A lot of modern motherboards have a jumper to reset the BIOS - you change the jumper, power on, power off, change it back.

Ben is right- many motherboards have a "reset"jumper such as he describes. If yours doesn't, that bar that holds the battery in place is usually attached by a couple of clips on either end of it; look closely at exactly how the clip is secured and you should be able to figure out how to remove it without breaking anything.

As a last resort, yes- you can slip something under the clip to break the circuit between the battery and its contacts. I'd suggest something less conductive than a piece of paper though- plastic would be a better.
