This is for anyone thinking about installing Redhat instead of windoze... Not really a question..
For the past few weeks my sisters computer has been running on Redhat because it was the only disk she has, well, actually I have that will run on this system. It used to run winblows, but her son screwed it up by inserting a restore disk that has the wrong key codes to it so it was stuck in setup mode and could go no further..
Well finally I got my hands on a Win98 disk with the correct codes and it installs, but it can't run the DSL modem because a file is missing and the modem software is no longer here so...to make a long story short I installed Redhat on the second drive just to see if I could at least get online to install the driver for windows and what happened? I didn't have to download any driver, didn't have to do any configuration whatsoever because Redhat automatically found it all by itself and I didn't so much as have to enter a user password for her DSL account.. It automatically worked from the Redhat installation the first time with no glitches..
Well, I can't say there was NO config needed, but it was absolutly minimal and the stuff every OS has to get configed for like the time, language settings etc..
If youre debating this should have made your mind up for you... Redhat is the one in my book for simplicity.. Now I want to begin to tackle the tougher stuff.. I finally set up partitions so...off we go.....
Later,
MM
