Looking to get involved in a project

I am way beyond the basics of programming in C/C++ and i have worked on my own little things for quite some time. I will be graduating from High School this year, and I want to be able to say I've been involved in some kind of group project. I'm looking for references to projects that need people, hopefully an ACTIVE group with a leader. Don't tell me to hack the linux kernel like so many thousands are already doing more or less on their own. I'm not that far. For now, I would prefer to have a leader to offer some limited guidance in the problems i would need to solve, and a team.

I guess i'm saying i'm looking for references...

Check sourceforge.net to see if any project that you may be interested in needs coders. They have listings for that sort of thing.
