I was wondering if you guys could recommend/suggest a free Linux firewall. Can you help?
If you don't mind, please provide links with your suggestions.
Thanks.

are you looking for just the prog to install on an existing box? or are you talking about the stand alone type stuff to put onto a special box?

Just looking for the stand alone software. I tried pmFirewall, but for some odd reason I get an error message on bootup. I tried everything to fix it without much luck, so I decided to give another proggy a chance.

How about FireStarter (http://firestarter.sourceforge.net) which is kernel 2.4 ready.

If you only need a firewall for online usage from a stand-alone pc, I recommend firestarter.
You can set it up in minutes, even if you currently know nothing about firewalls. Then you can worry about learning the details of ipchains and other other security tools at your own pace afterwards.
I hear pm firewall is pretty quick and easy too, but I've only used firestarter so far, so that's all I can comment on.

How about www.smoothwall.com.....a (http://www.smoothwall.com.....a) small
linux distro for a older 486/Pint box.
It will act as a dhcp/and firewall. I have
been using it for about a month, had it crash
awhile ago, but it was not the box or
software, (crappy power distrubition) I am
going to put a UPS on it. I run it without
even a monitor attached, use the browser
of any of your lan boxes to control it.
To be exact that url is www.smoothwall.org (http://www.smoothwall.org)
not com like I first said :D web page (http://www.smoothwall.org)
