We use our Linux box for net surfing, emails etc, nothing really sensitive is kept in the Linux portion of the Hard drives.
However due to the Children wanting to play Games we have a dual boot setup with another OS that uses NTFS as its filing system.
Should my dial-in Net connection be hacked can they get at/harm any files in the NTFS portion of the hard drive or other NTFS hard drive?

TIA
Eddy

not sure what your asking there, you mean if you get hacked while in linux, can they get to your NTFS partion, well depending on the hacker and how much time they have, and how you have it setup (do you mount your NTFS drives, or have them added to FSTAB) then yeah its possible, is it likely to happen since your on a dialup connection and the amount of time and work involved, no not really, i would not worry about it, i you were on an always on broadband connection then you might want to take a lil more precaution, but you should be fine, unless your paranoid

Most of the time GNU/Linux is cracked for 1 reason. Outdated software. Install a program like 'apt-get' and update your software at least weekly. Just doing that alone will likely give you 10 times better security than MSWindows. I also recommend setting up a firewall; no home user should be without one.
