I use vnc to create a remote X server on my windows XP machine. I am a little bit of a beginner and I just found out that you can switch between sessions using Ctl-Alt F[123456789].
Is there a way to
1. See a list of Xservers running?
2. View the remote session display on the local computer. I do not mean changing DISPLAY to :0. I want use the Xserver on windows normally while displaying it on the XP machine but I would also like to see that display on the linuxbox..

PS Where does the Xserver run when I vnc to the linux box.. Does vnc nest the Xservers??

Does that make sense to anyone??

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking here. VNC has two parts, the server and the viewer. On the WinXP box, start the server, set the display number(:0 is common) and set the password. On the Linux box, start the viewer within the GUI. Type in the Win XP IP address and add :0 to the end. (192.168.0.101:0 for example) Then enter password when prompted.

I have no ides if I answered your question but doing the above will get your WinXP desktop on your linux box.

If its a vncserver session you can view it locally the same way you view it remotely - use vncviewer. You'll have to be in X locally to start the vncviewer and it will work the same as it does in Windows, it will be another desktop in a window on your X desktop. As far as I know there is no way to run vnc as you do a normal X session, i.e. on its own tty.
