Has anyone out there using Oracle 8i on a linux box?

I love to have the experience of running and administering Oracle on my own machine, but I'm wondering if it's worth the hassle -- I've been told that the install is a little tough.

Anyone have any thoughts on Oracle???

Yes, I am running Oracle 8i R2 ( 8.1.6 ) on redhat 6.2, and it's running great.
I hear you have to make changes on the redhat 7.0, which is an oracle problem and not yet fixed. Besides that everything else is good. Look around on the internet and you'll find lots of tutorials and some of them will nicely walk you through the whole installation.
