I'm confused... I wanted to try out Gnome 2.4 so I downloaded Garnome, and it's building right now...

Is Garnome not actually installing a full implentation of Gnome 2.4? I don't understand how it keeps the old Gnome stuff on the drive, and why does it install to ~/Garnome? Does that mean noone else can use Gnome 2.4 without an entire separate installation?

Help!!!

Also... there is another thread asking where to place the script that Garnome tells us to build... but he figured it out on his own, so I don't know the answer. Does anyone know? Heres the post I'm talking about:

Yes, it is building a full installation of GNOME 2.4, but as I understand it (I couldn't get Garnome to build, so I installed GNOME 2.4 from an unofficial Debian repository), it builds a separate Garnome-session next to your current installation, rather than replacing your current installation.

This would be in line with the idea that Garnome is used by testers to try new builds of GNOME which may be unstable.

Apparently you then have to manually add garnome-gnome or some such to your list of available sessions (but since I didn't get that far, I don't remember exactly).

I would almost advise that you just wait until your distribution releases a package for GNOME 2.4, but it really is quite good, so I can only wish you more luck than I had with Garnome.
