Sep 17 11:23:48 blackhole kernel: NET: 265 messages suppressed.
Sep 17 11:23:48 blackhole kernel: Neighbour table overflow.

This is the error message i keep geting, i have no idea what it means and the only way i know to stop it is to stop one of my network cards(eth0). Could someone please help explain this message to me?

Thanks...

Simply Googling for "network table overflow" gave loads of replies.

Try this (http://www.linuxgazette.com/issue65/tag/12.html) one.

It's shown up in /var/log/messages. It is also very intermitent it sometimes it just keeps showing that message and sometimes it dosnt show it for as long time :(

I have no idea when it first showed up al though i think it was about the time that my windows box was having a few networking troubles(like always).

Yeah i use the shorewall firewall. Would this maybe be part of the problem?

That not an error message. Its a report of incoming packets dropped. Do a google for "black-hole " and "firewalls" and you'll get a better understanding. Don't use shorewall, so I cant advise how to turn off notification.

well thanks for that JohnT. I fiddled with shorewall for a bit and it seems to have stoped reporting the message.
