... and .. .. .. ... That's what I get when I do startx.

I'm using Debian 2.2, and everything was going fine and smooth, until I did dist-upgrade. The settings in XF86Setup are completely the same as they were before the dist-upgrade. X just doesn't work. Pon, poff and wvdial are also out of the qustion, that means that I don't have a web-connection available (on linux). Tried rebuilding the symlinks, tried everything. X just doesn't work.

So, if you have any ideas, I would be delighted to hear them. :) If not, I guess I just have to reinstall debian, or the worst option; go back to windows. :(

People; never do apt-get dist-upgrade if it isn't 100% necessary. It will mess everything up totally.

Help needed.

Maybe try running xf86config again, but save your old one (you might want to look at your specific settings, etc.)

Or, maybe upgrading screwed things up a bit if you upgraded to libc2.2 ?

I've tried to set things differently in XF86Setup and in xf86config, no success.

I already have libc2.2.

I don't know what XFree86 version you have, but try downloading via ftp.xfree86.org, version 4.0.2 base under the Linux-ix86-glibc22 directory. Download the 12 needed files, run "sh Xinstall.sh", answer those annoying questions and then try "xf86config"

Before you run startx, make sure you have the proper xserver.

-edit- also, what vid card do you have??
