Ok, I just updated my mandrake 7.1 to kernel 2.4.2, I did it to get my usr pci modem to work. It did, I can dial but don't have proper authentication to log in to my isp, ppp... ANyway, now that the new kernel is in place, I can't mount my CDRom drive, I can no longer get to my windowz partitions... I"m thinking that there are some other steps involved to adding a new kernel than just running the make...

Anything would help...thanks

You need to include support for whatever filesystems you want to use, either as modules or in the kernel itself. Same thing for ppp.

Check either the Kernel HOWTO at www.linuxdoc.org (http://www.linuxdoc.org) or the Kernel NHF on this site.

Also you lost supermount unless the new kernel was patched for it.
