the icons for the mandrake control center have suddenly disappeared from my programs menu and the quick access bar. how do I get them back? And while I'm here, can you open it from the konsole? if so, what's the command?
thanks

i get the same in other user accounts - I tried opening the mandrake control center using the welcome screen on a new account and got the message
file:/usr/share/applnk-mdk/Configuration/Mandrake Control Center.desktop doesn't exist.
 where's it gone? :( how do I get it back?

Do you use "rm" in root very much?

Sounds like you may have accidentally deleted(moved ?) the files. You may have to reinstall those packages.

i do but only in my downloads folder - does this mean I'm gonna have to reinstall?

Am I the only one trying to help this guy out? Can someone else comment on this? I'm just saying, because I have VERY little experience with "bloat-tops". I prefer a nice little windowmanager. :)

El Fluffo:
If you have the CD's, then reinstalling the KDE packages shouldn't be that bad. If you have to download them from the web, then it could take quite a bit longer.

You may not have to reinstall at all, but because of my lack of experience, I don't even know where these desktop files are supposed to be.

for pete's sake - now I can't reinstall. I rebooted with the mandrake cd in the cd tray and .... nothing! it just rebooted straight into linux. I checked the BIOS and the first boot device is the cd reader. then I checked with a windoze cd in case the mandrake one was damaged but still no luck! aaaaggggghhhhhhhhhh:confused:
any suggestions?

I can't help but wonder why you insist on reinstalling the whole system?

you mustīve removed the package by accident.

mount your cd, open a console, su to root.

cd to the /mnt/cdrom directory (or wherever your cdrom is mounted.

do an ls drakconf* if it returns nothing, it isnīt on this disk, keep trying till you find it. Then do an rpm -Uvh drakconf*

if it says that it is already installed do an rpm -Uvh --force drakconf*

That will work.

Hope it helps
