Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : print job dissappears from queue
Hi My printer was working fine, however now when I print either as user or as root, the jobs are queued but then are removed.. is there a reason why?, I am using rh 7_1 and Gnome desktop printing a text file... Like I say I have printed ok before (web pages), my printer is not always switched on, but when I need it I switch it on... recreating another instance of the printer does not change this... :(

Give us some help here. What did you do the last you were logged in, before the print problems started. What were you working on? What kind of configurations were you doing? Was that when you installed RH 7.1? If so, have you tried to reconfigure your printer? The question you have posted is far too vague for anyone to be able to help you.

I've had similar problems on RedHat, Slackware, and Debian systems. Installing enscript seemed to have fixed them all. Is enscript installed on your system?

Maybe this is something to consider: IF the printer is on, here, and i spool a job, followed by an lpq, I see nothing in the queue. Printing works just fine, however. I suspect this is caused by the LPD sending the whole thing into the printer's buffer. IF the file is larger than the printer can take, then i DO see the spool in there, but for most things, it's just gone as quick as it appears. Now, if you are not getting anything out to the printer, there's an issue we DO need more info on.
Hi Cheers for your input...
As far as I am concerned I haven't adjusted my print settings on this box since I last printed... I have only had reason to look at them when I was not getting a print out...
The text file is no longer than a page so buffer questions are not so much of an issue here (I think)...
This problem occured before, so I followed the instructions for as per the Red Hat guide to install a printer and that corrected the issue but why it prints initially but no longer now I cannot make sense of..
On boot the printer is initialised (checking for new hardware) so this tells me the printer is recognised by the OS, if I remove the printer cable and plug it to a Windoze box yes it prints ok (so this tells me the cable and the printer are ok)... I don't know
Maybe I'll try to install enscript to see if that helps, I'll see if its available from linuxprinting.org
I would not mind trash installing as another option.. as this will initialise other settings correctly.
