Currently I'm attempting to install Redhat 9.0 on a Netlux 7521 model notebook. After booting to the cd-rom the redhat install menu comes up. No matter what option I choose, after running through the intitializations, I get a blue screen with line down the middle taking up 3/4 of my LCD and the system soft hangs. GUI install, text install, kernal install with options/paramaters nothing has worked so far. I've tried everything from noapic to nodma and even turned off power management. I have checked the media I burned the ISOs on and it's fine. To no avail I cannot find any information to fix this in these forums or anywhere on the web. Anybody that has had a similar problem and posted has not been able to get any help. If you can provide any help or resources for me to check into or anything I would be greatly in your debt. If I could just get the actual files installing I think everything would be ok from there.

Here are the notebook specs for reference.
Netlux 7521 Series
Pentium III 933mhz
190mb ram
SiS 630/730 chipset
video is SMA up to 32 mb
dvd/cdrom
floppy
14.1 TFT display
2x USB
10/100 built in ethernet
everything else i believe is irrelevant, again thank you so much if you can provide me with anything to go on.

Try searching here (http://tuxmobil.org/mylaptops.html)
you may find something about that

They have some help from the Mitac manufacturer who I found seems to have produced the computer but there is nothing there regarding the problem I am having.

Have you tried noacpi and noapm?

When it hangs, see if you can switch to one of the other VC's to see if you can find the error it is stopping on.

ctrl-alt-f2 or f3

or

alt-f2 or f3

yes I have tried noapm and noacpi, these aren't doing anything differently. Also there is nothing on any of the other VC's they are either blank or blue.

*edit*
Is there any command to make installation work in a "safe" enviroment like to disable the most possible functions of the computer where you can at least get the OS installed then tinker with them later to get em working?

When I install either SCO Linux or SuSE 8.2 Professional, the install does have a 'safe setting' installation option.

I believe it adds

apm=off acpi=off disableapic ide=nodma

I would suggest you try another distro as sometimes one will install without problem and another will not.

actually I was just doing that, popped in some old 7.1 cd's and it's running smoothly, think I will just grab a copy of 8 and go from there.

thanks for your help
