Hi All!
Sorry about asking this question again, but I cannot access my last post, something about "can't find user profile....

Anyway I can't seem to get sound to play under a regular user. I have the CD player working fine, but only root can hear wave files. I have used chmod on /dev/audio, /dev/audio1, /dev/dsp and dev/dsp1. What other drivers are, and which ones specifically relate to wave files?

I am user a SBLive platinum, and I have the module emu10k compiled into the kernel

Thanks in advance for any help or info

Okay, now I am confused. If I open a bash shell, I can type in "cat foo >/dev/dsp" and it will play the sound. Also I can use "cat foo.wav >/dev/audio" and also get the sound played. But I can't seem to get KDE to play sounds. Do I have to configure KDE for sound playing? If so, how come I didn't have to set it up for root's KDE>

Okay.
I have now added a new user, and the new user account can play any kinda sound through KDE.

Where does KDE keep it user configuration files, that way maybe I can compare the two and find out what is missing from one.

I know that I could just delete the account name that is having problems, and re-add it again, but I would like to figure out why the sound fails on it

Thanks if anyone can help
