Hi folks,
I've got this RH7.1 system and would like to upgrade the current KDE 2.x to KDE 3.1.x (preferably the latest one).
Is there an easy way to do so w/o installing the latest version of RH?
Thanks!

IMHO the easiest would be to use apt-get for RH (search the forums) and use it to install kde. It will configure dependencies for you.

wouldn`t it be easier to upgrade to RH9? rpm hell would kill you.

Do they have KDE3.1.x rpms available for Redhat 7.1?

I could be mistaken but I believe apt is only avalibale (sp?) for RH 7.3 and above.phlipant you could try grabbing the packages from the RH 8.0 CD and using them, but IMHO it would be easier to do a full upgrade to RH 8 or even 9 just be sure to back up all your important stuff first as a precaution.:)

I don't know if the kde packages have been put into an apt4rpm respetory yet. I have been digging and I have not come up with anything yet. and to make life a little eaiser synaptic will allow you to search the apt cache via a gui I forgot the cli command.

If you want KDE 3.x on Red Hat 7.x, you are going to have to go to Red Hat 7.3. The upgrade from RH 7.1 to 7.3 should be painless. However, this will only get you as far as Red Hat's KDE 3.05a.
If you want KDE 3.1.3, then you will need to find third party pacakges or build it yourself.
The stuff here is good, I use it, but you will need apt to get it.
