Getting Scripts to Run

I have recently installed KDE 2.0 and I am now experiencing difficulties in running shell scripts and bin files. I have attempted to install several programs but the scripts fail to run. Anyone have an idea what my problem may be?

have you tried running sh "fullfilename" or bash "fullfilename" (making sure you are in the right directory) in the console?
