sb16isa, all jumpers
driver is present but won't load and keeps aiming for the wrong IRQ, I/O, DMA, etc.
Is there a way to configure the driver to use the resources that the soundcard is jumpered to?
Thanks. 8-)

What do you mean present? You mean it's in the list when you type "lsmod" as root?
What are you doing to try set up sound and what are the exact error messages that you are getting?

You may have to configure the card using pnpdump and isapnp. What irq,io, and dma settings is the card set to use with the jumpers? Run pnpdump > /etc/isapnp.conf and try editing that file to match your needs then run
isapnp isapnp.conf
to see if those settings work. Then reload the sb module.
Good luck

i used to use an sb16, so the thing you need is definitely the pnptools like pnpdump and isapnp, like scanez said. the only way that i was able to get it to work, even with jumpers set, was to use the settings windows had used so if you have a win install you'll want to check those.
you might also look for sndconfig which i think is available for redhat and debian and others i'm sure...it does a great job of doing all the work for you. other dists have similar tools.
now i just have to say....why urinal cake?

It's just my old Quake name, Yes the driver shows up when I lsmod. I'll read through your posts and work on it. Thank you.

Hey thanks guys. sndconfig is included in my distro and it worked like a charm. Now I can Quake with sound. Contrary to what I'd heard, Quake runs about 20% faster under Linux than Win2K. Hopefully Quake will find the sound system. With XP looming, I decided to finally learn Linux. So far it's going pretty well. 8-)
