Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Mplayer audio sync problem
I am running RH9 and have Mplayer installed to play back video files. It seems that on some files the audio is out of sync by about half a second with the video. On most files this is ok because i can adjust the audio delay but on some it allows me to move the slider but there is no effect and when i go back to check if the slider is where i set it i find it has gone back to the default setting.
I am running the following system
Intel P3 933mhz
Aopen MX3W Pro E motherboard (audio is coming from this)
ELSA Synergy II PCI Grapics card (Latest Nvidia Drivers installed)
512MB Memory
I recently reinstalled RH9 on this system and before now I didnt have this audio sync problem.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Is it a specific type of file or codec that does this?

I guess you could try updating the drivers as well...
I run a lot of XVid and DivX files on a PII 450 and I don't have any sync problems.
Incidentally, I use the OSS sound system, but I need the ALSA drivers to get K3B working, but I never bothered to check if ALSA actually works. K3B does and that's all I needed.
Can you tell us what sound card you're using and (if possible) the driver versions.
Also, I had a similar problem on a Windows machine where the audio ran at 50% or 200% the speed of the video creating some rather interesting (albeit annoying) effects. Thank God I fixed it (Win2k thought it would install its own audio drivers for me) by simply reinstalling the driver I though worked best. This could have a similar base under Linux.

Thanks for the replies. I have installed Divx for Linux although i am not sure if it installed correctly. It is Divx files that are causing the problems and i am using the X11/xv video driver and the OSS audio one.
The sound card is the one onboard the Aopen MX3W Pro E which has the Analog Devices AC'97 CODEC (according to the Aopen website). I could not find any updated drivers for this board so it just comes with the RH9 distro drivers.
One thing i have noticed is that if i jump about in the video file it resyncs itself after a while.
The files play well on an XP machine but not on the RH9 one which is a bit of a pain.

Whoops. Should've read your post a little more fully - you've already said what card you're using.
When I installed MPlayer, I didn't bother with DivX. You simply don't need it. I'm guessing when I say this, but MPlayer with XVid seems to have support for DivX files as well.
If you can get rid of DivX, then see if it'll work. Otherwise look up the MPlayer HOWTO and try to get redo it without DivX support.
