Hi pple,
Task: Setting up an NIDS on my company's netwk. Using Redhat 9.0
Situation: Cant seem to get anything working.
Myself: Total newbie to linux.
1. Installed all the programs needed following the instructions from
www.snort.org documentation on the NIDS installation pdf
2. Do not know where to begin and how. How to play around even.
3. Does snort really need a GUI interface?
4. Typed the commands for snort but it seems there must be some order of
the cmds b4 it can start
Basically i tried google searching everywhere for all sorts of documentation. All gave me extremely technical stuff or either explanations on how packets work ...yada... It would greatly help if someone could guide me along. I'l probably get the hang of it faster after someone show me the ropes. Due to time constraints that's why i sound pretty desperate.
