How do i properly add a shortcut to the desktop in linux mandrake 8 without getting errors when i try to change the icons? Whats the proper way to add a program link on the desktop?

Are you using KDE or Gnome?

I can't help you, since I don't use either, but other people will need this info in order to help.

In KDE, you just right-click on the desktop and select 'Create New' and then 'Link to Application'.

Not sure why you would get errors when changing the icon unless one of the KDE configuration files is messed up and the icon path is missing or corrupted.

nice one slacker_x for that valuable bit of info :)

gnome is harder if you use nautlius as i cant work it out myself yet as im used to the kde way of things

I'm using KDE, and thats what i did before with the link to application, i'll try rebooting and then maybe i won't get any errors. Thanks for the help!
