I'm having trouble getting my computer to go into standby mode. I'm running Mandrake 9.1. When I do apm -S, the screen goes blank, the computer beeps three times and then it beeps once and comes out of standby.
I'm able to stand by on WinXP that is dual booted on the machine.
Any ideas?

If you use KDE desktop, you may want to look at this. I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for.
Control Center, like start in windoze, then Configuration/KDE/Power Control/Display Power Control. You may want to look at those settings.
That was one purpose, now for the second one:
BUMP. :D
Hope that helped if not maybe the second purpose will.

hmm.
that kind of works, but it only does the monitor. I'd like my computer to go into standby as well.

I've never configured apm and standby myself, sooo it's off to G4L.
See if these search results for 'apm standby' (http://www.google.com/linux?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=apm+standby&btnG=Google+Search) help as some should tell you what needs to be enabled in the kernel and what else needs to be configured.
