Guys, please take a look at the screenshot I've attached...

You can see - I've got 512Mb of memory, but there's only 13Mb free. Over 50% of memory is used by disk cache and disk buffers, swap is barely being touched. Why would this be happening? The CPU is an AMD 2700 XP, so it shouldn't be sluggish, but it is.

Is there something missing / incorrect in the kernel? If so, any ideas what?

PS - There was a program compilation going on, but the memory barely changed when that had finished.

Its ok, the linux kernel will look at as 'unused memory is wasted memory'.
