I have just downloaded StarOffice and it is in the .bin format? I have tried everything I know to unpack it, but am not familiar with this format, (except in the Mac world) Any help would be great...Thanks in advance...

Try a chmod. chmod 777 <name of star office file> . Make sure that you're logged in as root when you do it. Hope that helps.

But how do I execute the file? Sorry, I am truly a newbie at this...Thanks for the help.

After you've done a chmod, try sh <name of SO file>, With some distros, ./<name of SO file> will work as well. Depends on the distro and your setup. What distro are you using?

RedHat 7.0. When I use ./<file> it runs then says that the temp directory is full.

temp directory is full? Hrmmm...how is your drive partitioned, and are you limited for space?
Also, does it say anything before it tells you that the temp directory is full? I don't need to know what it is, I just need to know whether or not it says it right off the bat.

What desktop environment are you running? Do you have gnome? More specifically, do you have the program "gtop"? If you do, run gtop and take a look at the drive usage statistics tab (or something like that). It will tell you if you're out of space. If you are out of space, it's either time to get a new HD, or re-install Red Hat and do individual package selection to reduce some of the bloat. You could always go to a more basic distro such as Debian (excellent if you have a high-speed connection or a Debian CD) to save you some space. I think an average Debian install with a respectable amount of programs is 800 megs, as opposed to the Red Hat default which I believe is somewhere in the 1.5 Gig range.

I think that your tmp partition is probably full and when you go to run staroffice it can't write to the tmp drive. Do a df -h and look at the percent full, you may need to delete or add space from somewhere is. Then again it is very early in the morning and I haven't had much coffee.
