Ok I am downloading Mandrake 8.1 b/c I hear its the easiest to learn from...

My question is there are three things...
Mandrake 8.1 Install iso
Mandrake 8.1 Extras iso
Mandrake 8.1 Supplemental iso

Which do I want...all three? just the first one?

For a normal install (meaning a typical install) i would say you can get by with the first 2. If you want everything get all three.

Only the first is required for an install. The other 2 contain extra software that you can install after the initial installation.

Ok...if I dl all three...I guess I will need three seperate disks...will I then intall one after the other?

It should ask you during the install which disks you have, then it will select packages from those.

Ok thanks, at least I have a fast connection...each is downloading at around 400kbps

n00b question #3 for me today...

DO I just burn the ISO file onto a disk?

'Create CD from Image' and not just burning the iso directly to cd.
www.linuxiso.org (http://www.linuxiso.org) has instructions for some of the more popular cd burning software.
