Gnutella is one of the more popular ones. I use LimeWire, which uses the gnutella networks and is a little easier to work with, it does require the java runtime environment though.

Kazaa just released their linux client (www.kazaa.com). It's a really nice engine, too. It uses fragmented downloads, so it breaks a file up into little chunks and grabs several chunks simultaneously from multiple users, so downloads tend to be alot quicker than other programs I have used.
Despite the fact that napster is down, gnapster (jasta.gotlinux.org) still lives on using OpenNAP servers. Just install that baby, and then browse opennap servers and pick the ones with lots of users. It works quite well.
There's always gnutella, too, but I hate gnutella network.
i do not use any file sharing programs, but if a hacker has the talent to crack in to my almost hacker-proof box they can have all the free MP3s & mpegs they can get downloaded... lol lol lol
