I was just wondering if it was possible to change the appearance of the lilo-boot startup menu. I'm currently using RedHat 7.0.
And also, since I'm using graphical login, is it possible for me to change that pic also?

yes!! do a search through 'how i did it' section for LILO and you should find something on changing the bacground picture, as for changing the menu, i ma not sure what you mean... so it says linux_2.2.18 and linux_2.2.12 ? instead whatever the default is? yes, this is possible and easy, if you are dual booting with another operating system you can change its name in LILO too.

Yes you can change the menu. Add the following line to your /etc/lilo.conf somewhere below the "boot" option:

message = /boot/message.txt

Now create a /boot/message.txt with the content and layout of how you'd like your LILO menu to look like. Keep in mind that this is all in text. When you're satisfied, save the file and run "lilo" and reboot.

You could also upgrade your version of lilo to the latest and that will give you a graphical version. Instead of just a boot: prompt you will get a menu that lets you see all of the OS's installed at once and shows the countdown timer before the default OS is booted. You can get the latest version of lilo here: ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/system/boot/lilo/
