I want to load my background image so I tried typing
bsetbg -f /home/pinksta/imagefilename.jpg and it says bsetbg does not work and I need some type of image editing program. I did the FULL install of Debian 3.0 aswell.

First of all, it's no trouble to post your error, so do so. Try the Esetroot command. I'm not sure what package that came with but that's what I use (though bsetbg works for me as well). Check the fluxbox documentation at fluxbox.org.

esetroot did not work eather.
I'm running Debian 3.0 woody.
bsetbg: error: couldnt find any suitable image applications in the system path!
it is suggested that you use qiv,xli (xsetbg), or xv.
you can obtain them at the following locations.

Also if you know, how can I make it so I login through the terminal when I startup instead of the KDM login screen and make it so when I type startx it loads fluxbox?
